Tell us about your superpowers. What do you do exactly?
I help young people financially thrive not just survive. Specifically, we share educational content across a variety of platforms such as PricelessTay.com, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
How did you get started in the personal finance space?
I dropped out of pre-med due to health reasons and decided to pursue finance after asking my mom what I should do with my life. During this transition, I immersed myself in corporate finance and soon recognized the significant need for personal finance education in the US.
Lots of people feel like they’ll just never be good with their personal finance. What would you say to someone who feels this way?
To those feeling this way, I'd say: If you believe you'll never be good at it, that belief will likely become your reality. Conversely, if you believe you can improve, you'll naturally seek out opportunities to make that happen. This might include following financial educators on social media, researching financial advisors, and actively learning more about managing money.
What are some of the most common personal finance challenges you see people struggling with?
To those feeling this way, I'd say: If you believe you'll never be good at it, that belief will likely become your reality. Conversely, if you believe you can improve, you'll naturally seek out opportunities to make that happen. This might include following financial educators on social media, researching financial advisors, and actively learning more about managing money.
What are some simple, under-appreciated ways people can start improving their “personal finance” health TODAY?
Start by tracking your spending. Knowing where your money goes each month is essential. Utilize budgeting apps or a simple spreadsheet to categorize your expenses and pinpoint areas where you can reduce spending. This awareness can help you make more informed financial choices. Many young people view budgeting as restrictive, but in reality, it's designed to empower you by giving you control over your finances.
Tell us about an epic failure or setback you’ve experienced in your work/career. What did you learn from that experience?
Early in my career, I struggled with the belief that achieving more meant being better. This mindset led to constant striving and burnout, despite my accomplishments. I realized that equating "more" with "better" prevented true contentment. Shifting my focus to personal growth and enjoying the journey, even if it meant reaching goals later, brought greater satisfaction and balance.
Applying this lesson to my finances, I stopped viewing money and possessions as the ultimate goals. Instead, I focused on financial stability and security, creating a budget that prioritized savings and investments. Celebrating small milestones and valuing experiences over material possessions enriched my life and reduced financial stress.
Overall, changing my mindset from ""more is better"" to one valuing stability, growth, and contentment has improved both my professional and financial health, leading to a more balanced and fulfilling life.
What are some books or resources you love that you wish others knew more about?
Books are one of the best ways to increase your financial literacy. I have learned so much by reading financial books, and starting this habit from a young age can fast-track your path to success. A great book to begin with is "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki. This book offers valuable insights into money management, investing, and financial independence, providing a solid foundation for anyone looking to improve their financial well-being.
